The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects allegedly linked to a syndicate involved in trafficking stolen exotic vehicles across Nigeria’s borders.
The suspects, identified as Adewale Abiola and Kabiru Abobarin, were arrested by operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) during an operation on August 25, 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to the police, the operatives spotted a stolen Lexus SUV around 4am and attempted to stop it for questioning. The occupants reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush.
The operatives pursued them, leading to the arrest of two suspects. One of them reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to the left foot during the operation.
A search of the recovered vehicle allegedly led to the recovery of four HP laptops, an iPhone 15 Pro Max, seven wristwatches, jewellery and other valuables believed to belong to the victim.

The police said preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects allegedly received the vehicle from a syndicate that stole it in Ilorin, Kwara State.
They reportedly disclosed that they were taking the vehicle towards the border, where an ECOWAS document was expected to be obtained to facilitate its movement to another country for sale.
The investigation is ongoing as police work to uncover other members of the alleged syndicate.
