The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested two suspected child traffickers and rescued a four-year-old girl in Kuje, Abuja.
The suspects, identified as Rose Daniel and Blessing John, were reportedly arrested on August 27, 2026, while allegedly attempting to flee with the child, identified as Ummi Mariam Abdullah.
According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the suspects were apprehended following a tip-off from a vigilant resident who witnessed the incident and immediately alerted the police.
Police operatives responded to the report, arrived at the location and rescued the child before taking the two suspects into custody.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that Daniel and John had previously been arrested in December 2025 and prosecuted for a similar offence.
The police said the suspects were convicted but were later released on bail after spending about five months in custody.

Further investigation reportedly showed that, following their release, the suspects had allegedly abducted and trafficked four children to different parts of the country.
In the latest case, the police alleged that two of the children were taken to an accomplice in Port Harcourt, identified only as “Madam Ijeoma,” who allegedly purchased each child for ₦1.5 million.
The rescued four-year-old girl has since been reunited with her family, while the two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The FCT Police Command said the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
The Command also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety and whereabouts of their children.
Residents were equally encouraged to report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
