The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Lagos, has arrested two women over an alleged false publication claiming that Access Bank Plc would shut down its operations.
The report, which was circulated on social media, reportedly advised Access Bank customers to close their accounts and withdraw their funds before September 23.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, FCID, Simeon Akpanudom, said the suspects were arrested in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, following a petition from Access Bank through its solicitors.

According to the police, one suspect allegedly shared the message in a WhatsApp group, while the other reportedly reposted it on Facebook, where her account had more than 12,000 followers.
The suspects are facing allegations including conspiracy, false publication, fabrication, digital dissemination of malicious falsehood, economic sabotage and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.
The police said investigations are ongoing.
