The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a man suspected of armed robbery and recovered two locally made pistols and two machetes from him in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest followed a distress alert received by the police in the early hours of September 14, 2026, after a reported violent attack in Ikot Ekweng village.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday and made available to journalists in Uyo.
According to the statement, police operatives on vehicular patrol were alerted by the Command Control Room and immediately moved to the community after receiving reports of the incident at about 5am.

The patrol team reportedly met an Inspector Henry, who alleged that he had been attacked by a man identified as Ini Mfon.
The suspect was accused of attacking the police officer with a machete while allegedly attempting to dispossess him of his tricycle. The officer reportedly sustained an injury to his right hand during the incident.
Following the report, the operatives traced the suspect to his residence, where he was arrested.
A search of the premises allegedly led to the recovery of two locally made pistols and two machetes, which were taken into police custody as exhibits.
The police said detectives were investigating the source of the weapons and would determine whether they had been used in previous criminal activities.
Authorities also said the investigation would establish whether the suspect had links with other criminal groups operating within or outside Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
The suspect remains in police custody and is assisting investigators with the ongoing probe.
The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the officers involved in the operation and said the command would continue to intensify efforts against violent crime and illegal firearms.
He urged residents to provide credible information about suspicious activities and the movement of illegal weapons, assuring them that such information would be treated confidentially.
