
The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber, Sunday Nimel, in Asaba and recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and two locally made guns.
The suspect was arrested on October 7, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m. by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), Ughelli, following intelligence reports and a joint operation with local vigilantes.
According to the police, Nimel is suspected of belonging to an armed robbery syndicate allegedly responsible for several residential robbery operations in Asaba and surrounding communities.
Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that information obtained during the suspect’s interrogation led officers to a hideout near Okpanam City Gate, where the weapons were recovered.

The recovered items include one AK-47 rifle, three rounds of live ammunition and two locally made cut-to-size guns.
The police said investigations are ongoing to establish the suspect’s full involvement and uncover other members of the alleged criminal network.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives for the operation and urged residents to continue providing credible information to assist security agencies in combating crime across the state.
