The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old security guard over the alleged sexual assault of a five-year-old pupil in Calabar.
According to the police, the incident was reported by the proprietress of the school on September 28, 2026. The suspect was allegedly caught taking the child to an uncompleted building close to the school, where the alleged assault reportedly occurred.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said the suspect remains in police custody as preliminary investigations continue. He added that the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The police said the case is being treated seriously because of the age of the alleged victim and stressed the importance of protecting children from abuse and exploitation.
Authorities also urged parents, guardians, school authorities and members of the public to promptly report suspected cases of child abuse.
The police further appealed to the public not to share the child’s name, photographs or any information that could reveal her identity, in order to protect her privacy and welfare.
