
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Adewale Arojah for allegedly impersonating a popular cleric on Facebook and defrauding several victims of more than ₦18 million.
The suspect was reportedly using a duplicated Facebook profile of Prophet Dr. Muyiwa Akogun to offer fake prophecies and prayer services to people seeking spiritual assistance.
According to the police, the investigation began after the cleric reported the fraudulent account on October 3, 2026, following complaints from members of the public who had allegedly been contacted by the impersonator.
Police operatives attached to the Ilaro Division reportedly tracked the suspect through intelligence gathering and technological monitoring before arresting him in a village in Ajegunle, along the Ilaro/Ibogun axis.

During interrogation, Arojah allegedly confessed to impersonating the cleric and admitted using his identity to defraud victims both in Nigeria and abroad.
The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation. Police said the investigation would determine the full extent of the alleged fraud and identify any possible accomplices.
The Ogun State Police Command has urged members of the public to exercise caution and verify the identities of religious leaders and public figures before engaging with them or sending money through social media platforms.
