The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with separate incidents involving deadly violence, an attack on a police facility, and public unrest in Taura and Ringim Local Government Areas of the state.
According to the command, the arrests followed intelligence-led operations launched after violent disturbances erupted at Gujungu Market on July 26. The crisis reportedly began after a disagreement between a soldier and a 25-year-old man, identified as Biniya Alhaji Ibrahim, during which the civilian sustained fatal injuries.
The situation later escalated as hoodlums allegedly attacked a police station, fired bows and arrows at security personnel, and set two thatched shops within the market on fire.
Police said two suspects were arrested for their alleged roles in the attack, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend others who fled the scene.
In a related development, six additional suspects were taken into custody over the alleged assault on two vigilante members during the unrest. One of the vigilantes later died from injuries sustained in the attack, while the second victim is receiving medical treatment. Security operatives also recovered six cows believed to have been abandoned during the disturbance.
In a separate incident, police arrested a 20-year-old suspect over the alleged fatal stabbing of another young man during a quarrel in Dabigel Village, Ringim Local Government Area. The victim reportedly died while receiving treatment at a hospital.

The police said investigations into all the cases are ongoing and assured that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The command also disclosed that a stakeholders’ meeting involving community leaders, traditional rulers, security agencies, youth representatives and other groups is underway to address the root causes of the Gujungu Market violence and prevent future occurrences.
Residents have been urged to remain peaceful and continue supporting security agencies with credible information to strengthen public safety across the state.
