The family of a murdered schoolteacher in Oyo State, Michael Olugbade Oyedokun, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde to urgently intervene in the search and recovery of his remains.
Oyedokun was among staff members abducted alongside pupils from Community High School in Oriire Local Government Area. While security agencies successfully rescued the surviving victims after nearly two months in captivity, the teacher’s body has yet to be found.
In an open letter addressed to the President and jointly signed by members of the Oyedokun family, the grieving relatives expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and security agencies for the rescue operation.
However, they stressed that their pain remains unresolved due to the inability to recover and bury their loved one.
“The safe return of the victims restored hope to many families, but ours continues to endure deep pain,” the family stated. “Our beloved relative lost his life in captivity, and his remains have not been recovered for a proper and dignified burial.”

They emphasized that the absence of his body has prolonged their grief and denied them the closure needed to begin healing.
According to the family, recovering Oyedokun’s remains is not only a personal request but also a matter of national responsibility and human dignity.
“We respectfully urge the government to intensify efforts to locate and return his body. Every Nigerian deserves dignity, even in death,” the letter read.
Reports indicate that Oyedokun was killed by his captors shortly after the abduction. Another teacher, Esiyan Adegboye, who was shot during the initial attack, has since been buried after his body was recovered.
The Oyedokun family expressed confidence that the same commitment shown in rescuing the kidnapped victims can be extended to recovering his remains, allowing them to give him a proper farewell and find closure.
