
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the alleged mob killing of a 21-year-old man, Emmanuel Effiong, in Uyo.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the development in a statement, revealing that the suspects were apprehended following an intensive investigation triggered by credible intelligence and a viral video circulating online.
According to the police, the victim was accused of stealing poultry items, including chickens and eggs, from a farm located along Mbak 4 Community in Uyo Local Government Area on April 19. The accusation reportedly led to his assault by a group of individuals.
Preliminary findings indicate that the victim was attacked and later buried in a shallow grave in an attempt to conceal the crime. The disturbing incident came to light after authorities reviewed video evidence showing the victim being assaulted and dragged by a group.

Police operatives, acting swiftly, launched a detailed investigation which led to the arrest of four principal suspects. Authorities also recovered key evidence, including a Mitsubishi pick-up van allegedly used during the incident.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, strongly condemned the act of jungle justice. He emphasized that anyone suspected of committing a crime must be handed over to lawful authorities for proper investigation and prosecution.
The police assured the public of their commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all those involved in the crime are brought to justice.
