
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested five suspects for allegedly vandalising railway infrastructure and recovered 85 stolen steel sleepers.
The arrests were made on Saturday in the Nannawaji area of Gujba LGA during a joint operation with members of the Hunters Group. The suspects were caught transporting the materials in a Mitsubishi Canter vehicle registered YAB-234YJ, heading toward Potiskum LGA.
Police said the sleepers were suspected to have been unlawfully removed from railway installations.
The arrested individuals are Abdullahi Habu, 27, of Potiskum LGA; Abba Muhammed, 18, and Salisu Adamu, 20, both of Buni Yadi in Gujba LGA; Isiyaka Adamu, 20, of Potiskum LGA; and Muhammed Muhammadu, 23, of Kukareta in Damaturu LGA.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspects named one Abba Chari, 45, a resident of Yadin Buni in Gujba LGA, as the alleged mastermind behind the vandalism.
The command said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices and ensure all those involved face prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin warned against vandalising public infrastructure, stating that anyone caught would face the full weight of the law.
