The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, identified as Adeyemo Mukaila, over the alleged sexual assault of a victim in Ikire, Osun State.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended by members of the public and handed over to the police following an incident in the Ilupeju area of Ikire.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the suspect was a friend of the victim’s grandmother and frequently visited the house where the victim lived.
The police alleged that in September 2026, the suspect invited the victim to his residence under the pretext of collecting some items, where he allegedly dragged the victim into his room and sexually assaulted her.
The statement further alleged that on October 2, the victim visited the suspect at his workshop in Ilupeju to present him with biscuits as a birthday gift.

During the visit, the suspect allegedly dragged the victim into a nearby bush and sexually assaulted her before fleeing after noticing that people had seen them.
Commuters reportedly pursued the victim and asked what had happened. After she narrated the incident, they went after the suspect, apprehended him and handed him over to the police.
The police command urged parents and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station or through established emergency channels.
The suspect’s arrest was confirmed by the police, while the allegations remain subject to investigation.
