The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed an attack on supporters of Accord Party governorship candidate Oriyomi Hamzat during a peaceful procession in Molete, Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday when suspected hoodlums allegedly ambushed hundreds of Hamzat’s supporters, pelting them with stones as they welcomed the radio presenter back to Nigeria from the United Kingdom.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the attack, stating that the supporters were ambushed during the procession.
According to eyewitnesses, the intervention of security personnel and Hamzat’s efforts to calm his supporters prevented the incident from escalating into a reprisal attack.

A member of the group, Kehinde Olaiya, disclosed that some supporters sustained injuries, while several vehicles in the convoy were vandalised during the attack.
Despite the incident, the supporters reportedly maintained their resolve to support Hamzat, insisting that political intimidation should not prevent anyone from backing their preferred candidate.
The procession was expected to continue from the Ibadan Toll Gate end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to the headquarters of Agidigbo FM along the Ojoo-Iwo Road Expressway.
The incident has renewed concerns over political violence and thuggery as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
