The Osun State Government has announced plans to audit flood-control projects carried out across the state since 2020 and introduce an early-warning system to strengthen preparedness against future flooding.
The directives were issued by Governor Ademola Adeleke following an assessment of communities affected by recent flooding, which reportedly impacted more than 1,000 households across the state.
Several areas in Osogbo, including Gbodofon, Ogooluwa, Omigade, Ijetu, Oke Arungbo, Baruwa and Isale Osun, were affected, with more than 700 buildings reportedly impacted around the Osun River corridor.
The governor directed relevant ministries and agencies to conduct a coordinated assessment of the affected communities, while the Osun State Emergency Management Agency was tasked with creating a verified register of affected households and coordinating emergency assistance.

Adeleke also ordered the development of an Osun State Flood and Stormwater Master Plan, as well as a Flood Infrastructure Performance Audit covering major flood-control interventions from 2020 to date.
The state government will also establish “Osun Flood Watch,” an integrated early-warning and community-reporting platform aimed at improving flood monitoring and emergency response.
Authorities were further directed to inspect damaged bridges, culverts and roads, clear blocked waterways and drainage channels, and strengthen enforcement against developments obstructing waterways and flood-prone areas.
The governor directed all relevant ministries, departments and agencies to submit initial implementation reports within 14 days, with monthly progress reports expected throughout the remainder of the rainy season.
