Three suspected members of a robbery gang have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the robbery of a traditional ruler along the Ife Expressway in Osun State.
The suspects, identified as Chubuzor Anasihwe, 31; Uchenna Steven, 26; and Ejike Ani, 31, were arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command.
According to the police, the suspects were linked to robbery operations carried out along the highway on August 23 and September 30, 2026, during which motorists were allegedly attacked and about five vehicles stolen.
The stolen valuables, including the monarch’s crown, were estimated at about ₦50 million.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, said the suspects were arrested at two locations in Lagos following actionable intelligence. A Toyota van allegedly used by the gang was also recovered.
One of the suspects, Ejike Ani, claimed that the monarch was not their intended target. He said the gang was returning to Lagos after another robbery when one of its members allegedly spotted the monarch’s vehicle and decided to attack.
Ani further claimed that the gang used sticks wrapped in cello tape to imitate firearms during the operation.
The police said the suspects are assisting with investigations as efforts continue to arrest other members of the gang, recover the remaining stolen vehicles and retrieve the weapons allegedly used in the robberies.
