The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man and recovered three suspected stolen motorcycles, a locally made gun and a 50kg bag containing substances suspected to be cannabis.
The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation conducted by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on the directives of the state Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi.
According to the command, officers raided a suspected criminal hideout in Onitsha Ngwa, Obingwa Local Government Area, on Wednesday, September 23, following actionable intelligence.
The police said several suspects fled from the area when they noticed the arrival of the operatives. However, the officers recovered a locally made single-barrel long gun and a 50kg bag containing substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

The command later arrested a suspect identified as Ebuka Nwakerindu, a 20-year-old resident of Umuokoromiri Village in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
Nwakerindu was apprehended on Thursday, September 24, with the police alleging that he specialised in stealing and reselling motorcycles. Three motorcycles suspected to have been stolen were reportedly recovered from him.
The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects who escaped during the operation.
The recovered items have been taken into police custody as investigations continue. The command added that the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention and the protection of lives and property across Abia State.
