Police Arrest 13 Suspects Over Robbery, Vandalism, Recover Weapons in Abia -

The Abia State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 13 suspects in connection with armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, vandalism, and other criminal activities across the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed that operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) carried out a series of intelligence-led operations leading to the arrests and recovery of incriminating items.

According to the statement, a 27-year-old suspect, Uchenna Agbneiwu, a native of Nkume in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State but residing in Ubakala, was apprehended for vandalizing government property.

He was intercepted with a vandalized large pipeline concealed with sawdust inside a white Toyota Hiace bus. The police added that efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing accomplices.

In a separate operation, VCRU operatives in Aba North arrested one Williams Ifeanyi along Market Road by Rail on August 2, 2026, for allegedly robbing a victim at gunpoint and dispossessing them of personal belongings.

A pistol and live cartridges were recovered from the suspect.
Similarly, officers from the Uratta Divisional Police Station arrested two suspects, John Chigozie and David Anyaka, for their alleged involvement in an armed robbery incident at a hotel in Aba on August 1, 2026.

A pistol and live ammunition were also recovered during the operation.
The Command further revealed that operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended members of a suspected cult group during a meeting at Umuezeagwu in Umuahia North.

Recovered items from the scene included a pump-action gun, a Beretta pistol, live cartridges, a cutlass, an axe, suspected hard drugs, walkie-talkies, face masks, and berets.

DSP Chinaka confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured the public of the Command’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
