The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the mysterious death of five members of the same family in Umuimo, Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of the state.
The deceased were identified as Kachi Nnabugwu, his wife Chinaza, and their three children. Their bodies were discovered inside their home after relatives and neighbours became concerned over their prolonged absence.
According to the police, the incident was reported by the deceased’s brother after repeated attempts to reach the family proved unsuccessful. Family members later visited the residence and, after receiving no response, forced the door open, where they found the bodies in an advanced state of decomposition.
Police spokesperson DSP Maureen Chinaka said detectives immediately visited the scene, documented the evidence, and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
She added that the bodies have been moved to a morgue for preservation and autopsy, while investigators work to determine the exact cause of death.
Residents of the community said the family had last been seen several days before the discovery. Neighbours reportedly joined relatives to gain access to the house after concerns grew over the family’s silence.

Community sources said food containers and a generator were found inside the residence, although authorities have not linked either to the deaths.
A video circulating on social media also showed residents performing traditional rites after the discovery, but police have not commented on its significance.
The Abia State Police Command said investigations remain ongoing and urged the public to avoid speculation until the outcome of the investigation is made known.
