At least four persons have been confirmed dead following a fresh attack by suspected armed herders in Abaushwa community, located in Nzorov council ward of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State.
The incident, which occurred late Monday night, left several other residents injured as attackers reportedly stormed the community under the cover of darkness. According to local sources, the assailants forcefully entered homes and carried out brutal killings while victims were asleep.
A resident, who identified himself simply as Atoundo, described the attack as unprovoked, stating that the gunmen invaded the area without warning or prior conflict.
“They attacked in the middle of the night, broke into homes, and killed people in their sleep. Initially, three persons were confirmed dead, while others were injured. Sadly, one of the injured later died at the hospital, bringing the death toll to four,” he said.
The injured victims were reportedly taken to the General Hospital in Gbajimba for treatment.
A community leader and former Executive Secretary of the Benue State Teaching Service Board, Frank Kyungun, also condemned the incident, describing it as a senseless and unprovoked assault on innocent residents.

He noted that community leaders had visited affected families and urged residents to remain calm while security agencies carry out investigations.
Reacting to the development, the Chairman of Guma Local Government Area, Morris Orwough, condemned the attack and assured residents that security personnel had been deployed to the area to restore peace and prevent further violence.
He called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid in tracking down the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing. He assured the public that efforts were being intensified to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.
The latest attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Benue State, as residents continue to call for stronger measures to safeguard lives and property.
