The Delta State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in a statewide crackdown on illegal roadblocks and unauthorised revenue collection across major highways.
The operation, carried out in line with the Federal Government’s directive to eliminate extortion and criminal activities on Nigerian roads, targeted known hotspots where motorists have been subjected to harassment and illegal levies.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the enforcement exercise commenced on Friday and focused on strategic locations across the state.
The suspects were apprehended at key points, including the Head Bridge axis along the Delta–Anambra boundary and the Benin–Asaba Expressway near Agbor.

“The Delta State Police Command has launched a statewide clampdown on illegal roadblocks and unauthorized revenue collection along highways, in strict compliance with the Federal Government directive to rid Nigerian roads of extortion and criminal activities,” the statement read.
Police authorities confirmed that all suspects are currently in custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The command reiterated its commitment to restoring safety and order on highways, assuring the public that similar operations will be extended to other parts of the state.
Residents and road users have also been urged to cooperate with law enforcement officers as the crackdown continues.
