More than 20 miners are feared dead after a mining pit collapsed at Mayo Kam community in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday afternoon while miners were working at the site, trapping several people underground.
A resident, Kenneth Ayila, confirmed that over 20 people were feared dead, although the exact number of casualties had not been established.

A community leader, Usman Bello, said most of the victims were believed to be indigenes of Mayo Kam, describing the incident as a tragic day for the community.
Efforts to confirm the casualties from relevant authorities were unsuccessful as of the time of reporting. The Taraba State Police Command also said it had yet to receive an official report from its Bali Area Command.
The collapse has renewed concerns over safety conditions at mining sites across the state, particularly where adequate safety measures may be lacking.
