The Osun State Police Command has arrested a serving lawmaker and 146 other individuals suspected of political thuggery and other offences ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
The arrests are part of intensified security operations aimed at preventing violence, intimidation and other criminal activities before, during and after the election.
Police authorities have continued to warn politicians, supporters and other stakeholders against acts capable of disrupting the electoral process. The security agencies have also urged residents to provide useful information on suspected criminals and individuals planning to cause trouble.
The arrests reportedly followed intelligence gathering and operations conducted in different parts of the state. Those apprehended are expected to undergo investigation, while anyone found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police have maintained that their operations are not targeted at any particular political party or group, but are focused on protecting lives and property and ensuring that voters can exercise their rights peacefully.
