One person has been confirmed dead while two others sustained injuries after a truck overturned on Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, inward Mowe-Ibafo, in the early hours of Friday.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said its Response Team arrived at the scene around 5:46 a.m. after receiving distress calls about the crash, which caused a major obstruction and severe traffic congestion.
According to the agency, the truck, loaded with bags of monosodium glutamate, overturned after reportedly suffering brake failure, causing the driver to lose control.
The accident blocked about 75 percent of the carriageway and triggered a secondary collision involving four other vehicles, including a Toyota Sienna, a mini truck transporting paint, a flatbed truck carrying imported plywood, and another loaded truck. The impact also left paint and wooden sheets scattered across the road.
Emergency responders recovered the body of an adult male trapped beneath the overturned truck. The remains were handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for evacuation.

Two other adult males sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
LASEMA said the accident site was secured immediately, while traffic management measures were introduced to reduce congestion and prevent further crashes. Recovery operations involving two tow trucks were launched to remove the damaged vehicles and clear the roadway.
The operation involved LASEMA, the FRSC, the Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Motorists were advised to obey traffic diversions, follow the directives of traffic officials and maintain safe driving speeds around the affected area until normal traffic flow is restored.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery, while reaffirming the agency’s commitment to prompt emergency response across the state.
