A driver, Waidi Olajide Kolawole, has allegedly stolen his employer’s 2016 Toyota Camry just two days after he was employed, with the vehicle later recovered at a hotel in Ifo, Ogun State.
The vehicle, which belonged to an Indian national based at the Ilupeju Industrial Estate in Lagos, was reportedly taken on September 9, 2026.
Kolawole allegedly told his employer that he was taking the car to a nearby vulcaniser to repair a tyre but reportedly drove away with the vehicle instead.
Following a report by the owner, the car was electronically tracked to the Ifo area. Police operatives from the Ifo Division were subsequently deployed to locate it.
According to the Ogun State Police Command, the vehicle was eventually found at a hotel in Ifo at about 8:30pm.
The driver reportedly fled after sighting the police, escaping with the ignition key, while his alleged accomplice, Monday Adetunji, was arrested at the scene.

Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that the suspects had approached a mechanic to remove the vehicle’s catalytic converter, but the mechanic refused.
The police said the recovered vehicle had been secured, while exports were ongoing to arrest Kolawole and determine the full circumstances surrounding the alleged theft.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their swift response and urged vehicle owners to use tracking devices and other anti-theft measures.
The command also advised members of the public to carry out proper checks before entrusting their vehicles, property or access to homes and businesses to individuals.
