Martin Odegaard
Martin Ødegaard has been officially named captain of Norway’s national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, reinforcing his leadership role on the international stage.
The Arsenal F.C. skipper, who recently led his club to a Premier League triumph, will head a 26-man Norwegian squad filled with attacking firepower.
Among the standout names joining him are Erling Haaland, Oscar Bobb, and Jørgen Strand Larsen.
In an unusual twist, Norway’s squad list was unveiled via a pre-recorded video message delivered by Harald V, sparking surprise and curiosity among fans and players alike.
One of the biggest talking points from the announcement was the inclusion of uncapped goalkeeper Sander Tangvik, who earned a late call-up following an injury to Mathias Dyngeland.

Tangvik remains the only player in the squad yet to make a senior international appearance. Meanwhile, Nikita Haikin missed out after failing to complete his nationality switch in time for the tournament.
Defender Sondre Langås admitted the unconventional announcement left many players in suspense. Speaking to NRK, he said he remained unsure of his inclusion until the video concluded.
Norway will kick off their World Cup campaign against the Iraq national football team in Boston on June 16.
They will then face the Senegal national football team and France national football team in the group stage.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, expanded to 48 teams, will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, running from June 11 to July 19.
