Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE

The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, FNSE, has praised Nigeria’s significant strides in space technology over the past two decades.

She acknowledged the critical role of Nigerian engineers and scientists in launching satellites and collaborating with international space agencies.

Speaking in the 8th Engr. Brig. Gen. M.O. Agu, FNSE Annual Distinguished Lecture, organized by the Nigerian Institution of Space Engineers (NISE), Engr. Oguntala emphasized the need for the next two decades to focus on deeper participation in advanced space exploration and innovation, pushing beyond satellite launches.

The NSE Boss further highlighted the importance of government support in providing Nigerian engineers with the tools and opportunities needed for success, urging a reduction in dependence on foreign expertise while empowering local talent to lead national and global space initiatives.

The lecture Themed “Nigeria’s 21 Years in Space (2003 – 2024): Achievements, Challenges, and Prospects,” the lecture was delivered by Prof. Rabiu Babatunde, FAS and was attended by distinguished guests, including former President Engr. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, PhD, GCFR, FNSE, Senator Prof. Ajayi R. Boroffice, and the Director-General/CEO of NASRDA, Dr. Matthew Adepoju. Each speaker delivered remarks celebrating Nigeria’s achievements in space technology while envisioning future advancements.

This year’s distinguished lecture serves as a platform for reflecting on Nigeria’s 21-year journey in space exploration, while also inspiring the next generation of engineers to contribute to the country’s future successes on the global stage.
