
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the American Society of Civil Engineers Nigeria Section (ASCE Nigeria Section) have agreed to strengthen collaboration, particularly in the area of capacity building for members.
This formed the crux of discussions when the President of NSE, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR received the President of ASCE Nigeria Section, Austine Odibi, MNSE and his team on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the National Engineering Centre (NEC) Headquarters, Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, Engr. Rabiu expressed delight at receiving the ASCE delegation and commended the achievements of the ASCE Nigeria Section. He noted that the meeting provided an avenue to exchange ideas on advancing the engineering profession and deepening institutional collaboration.

According to him, NSE is placing significant emphasis on strategic collaborations, especially in the training and development of Young Engineers across the country.
“I am very proud of the achievements all of you have recorded at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Nigeria Section. I am delighted to receive you to discuss and exchange ideas on how to move engineering forward… I am part and parcel of ASCE and I have drawn a lot of inspiration from the organisation to the extent that some of the activities of ASCE are influencing the way we are shaping programmes within NSE,” he stated.
The NSE President acknowledged the strong support and presence of ASCE members during his investiture ceremony held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, in Abuja, adding that he has drawn considerable inspiration from the operations and programmes of ASCE. He further disclosed that one of the cardinal objectives of his administration is the training and empowerment of Young Engineers, expressing confidence that collaboration with ASCE Nigeria Section would greatly enhance such efforts.
He also spoke on ongoing efforts to reposition and strengthen the Society, particularly in ensuring that the conferment of Fellowship strictly adheres to established rules and professional standards.
Earlier, the President of ASCE Nigeria Section, Engr. Austine Odibi,MNSE congratulated Engr. Rabiu on his emergence as President of NSE, describing his leadership as timely for Nigeria’s infrastructure and engineering development aspirations.
“Mr. President, your emergence at this critical time for infrastructure development gives great confidence to the engineering community in Nigeria and globally. We are particularly impressed by your commitment to professional excellence, capacity development and sustainable engineering practice,” he said.
Engr. Odibi reaffirmed the commitment of ASCE Nigeria Section to supporting initiatives aimed at advancing engineering practice, strengthening professional collaboration and promoting knowledge exchange for national development.
He noted that the visit was not only to felicitate with the NSE President but also to reaffirm ASCE Nigeria Section’s readiness to collaborate with NSE in areas such as technical development, mentorship, research, sustainability and infrastructure development.
The ASCE Nigeria Section President also extended an invitation to Engr. Rabiu to attend the ASCE Nigeria Section Annual General Conference scheduled for August 26, 2026, at the Radisson Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. He disclosed that the theme of the conference is: “Climate Adaptive Cities: Engineering Solutions to Urban Futures.”
The Acting Executive Secretary, Abdulkadir A. Aliyu, MNIM, in his vote thanks at the conclusion of the meeting, commended the long-standing relations between NSE and ASCE Nigeria Section, reminiscing the high-level visit by an ASCE team from the USA to NSE in late 2025 as well as the message of congratulations by the Nigeria Section President to the President of NSE upon his assumption of office in January, 2026.
