
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a three-week suspension of its Kajola–Apapa passenger train service to allow for scheduled maintenance of its locomotives and coaches.
According to a statement released by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the temporary halt will take effect from July 6, 2026, with services expected to resume on July 27, 2026.
Opeifa disclosed that the last passenger train for the route will operate on July 3 before the suspension begins.
He emphasized that the maintenance exercise is necessary to ensure the continued safety, reliability, and efficiency of the railway system.

Despite the suspension, freight operations to and from the Apapa Port Complex, as well as other terminals on both narrow gauge and standard gauge corridors, will continue uninterrupted.
Passengers have been advised to utilize the Lagos Mass Transit Train services, which operate on weekdays. Morning services depart from Ijoko at 6:30 a.m. and Kajola at 7:00 a.m. to Iddo, while return trips leave Iddo at 5:30 p.m. for Ijoko and 6:15 p.m. for Kajola.
The NRC apologized for any inconvenience caused by the temporary disruption and expressed appreciation for passengers’ understanding and continued support.
