
Nigeria’s senior women’s cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens, ended their 2026 Kwibuka Women’s T20I campaign with a two-wicket win over Brazil in the third-place playoff. The match took place Saturday at the Gahanga International Stadium in Kigali.
All-rounder Christabel Chukwuonye led Nigeria’s charge with another standout display. She claimed three wickets for 13 runs, including a maiden over, and was named Player of the Match.
Chukwuonye finished the tournament as Nigeria’s top wicket-taker with 17 wickets in nine games and added 89 runs with the bat. Her all-round impact gave her a rating of 42.98 points, the highest for Nigeria in the MVP standings.
Captain Favour Eseigbe also impressed, guiding the chase with an unbeaten 19 to see Nigeria home in a tense finish. She ended the tournament with 15 wickets in nine matches and provided steady leadership on and off the field.

Shola Adekunle played a key all-round role throughout the competition. Against Brazil, she top-scored with 26 runs and picked up two wickets. She finished as Nigeria’s third-highest ranked player in the MVP standings with 100 runs and 10 wickets.
Esther Sandy and Salome Sunday anchored the batting lineup, scoring 159 and 152 runs respectively. Esther’s 63 remained Nigeria’s highest individual score of the tournament. Behind the stumps, wicket keeper Etim Sarah Ekwere recorded 13 dismissals, including five stumpings, highlighting the team’s sharp fielding.
The bowling unit showed depth beyond the frontline stars. Ude Lilian and Oseyande Omonkhobho each took eight wickets, while Rachael Samson claimed six in limited appearances. Together, they gave Nigeria a balanced attack that troubled batting lineups across the tournament.
