Bosnia and Herzegovina secured a place in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time in the country’s history after defeating Qatar 3-1 in their final Group B match on Wednesday.
The victory saw Bosnia finish with four points, and they later advanced as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams, earning a spot in the Round of 32.
Bosnia took control of the match from the opening minutes, creating several chances and putting pressure on the Qatari defence. Their dominance paid off when 18-year-old Kerim Alajbegovic, Bosnia’s youngest-ever World Cup player, opened the scoring with a stunning long-range effort after dribbling past two defenders.
The European side doubled their lead shortly afterwards when a shot from veteran captain Edin Dzeko deflected into the net, with Qatar goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada unable to prevent the goal.
