A student in Niger State, Muhibbat Abass, has revealed that 14 members of her family are among hundreds of worshippers allegedly abducted during attacks on four Juma’at mosques in Borgu Local Government Area.
The attacks occurred on August 21 in Dekara, Kpenya, Sabon-Gida and Gidan-Zana communities. Muhibbat said her father, grandfather, siblings and other relatives remain in captivity, leaving the family traumatised and struggling financially.
According to affected residents, 547 people were allegedly abducted, although state authorities have disputed the figure, putting the number of victims significantly lower.

Families have also reported deaths, burned homes and widespread destruction during the attacks. Some relatives said they identified loved ones in a video released by the abductors.
Muhibbat said she and her younger brother have been forced to stop attending school because their father, who supported their education, is among those abducted.
The affected families are appealing to the federal and Niger State governments to intensify rescue efforts and secure the release of those still being held.
