Suspected bandits have reportedly abducted scores of Muslim worshippers after invading several communities in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The attack occurred shortly after Friday prayers in Dekara, Gidan Zana, Sabon Gida and Masaka communities, according to Jafar Muhammad Shetiman Borgu, the federal lawmaker representing the area.
The lawmaker said the exact number of people abducted was yet to be confirmed.
He disclosed that the attackers stormed Dekara after Friday prayers, surrounded a mosque and forced worshippers into the forest before moving to neighbouring communities.
Several victims were also reportedly attacked with machetes, while some worshippers managed to escape despite sustaining injuries.

According to Borgu, youths and heads of households were among those abducted during the coordinated attacks.
The latest incident has heightened security concerns in Borgu, a border local government area adjoining Kebbi and Kwara states, as well as the Republic of Benin.
Authorities are expected to intensify security measures in the affected communities as efforts continue to determine the number of victims and their whereabouts.
