The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in collaboration with military personnel, has destroyed two cannabis farms in Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The operation, carried out on September 23, 2026, covered plantations measuring a combined 0.544092 hectares and with an estimated cannabis yield of 1,360.23kg.
The NDLEA also destroyed 107kg of processed cannabis, including cannabis seeds, at Eko Camp in Illushi.
The Edo State NDLEA Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday.
Two suspects, identified as 43-year-old Ajeh Egwuda and Nonso Ajodhe, were arrested during the operation. Both men are residents of Esan South-East.
According to Ofoyeju, Egwuda was arrested on a cannabis farm measuring 0.068011 hectares, with an estimated yield of 170.03kg.

Ajodhe was also arrested while cultivating a larger plantation covering 0.476081 hectares, which was estimated to produce 1,190.20kg of cannabis.
The commander said the suspects attributed their involvement in cannabis cultivation to financial difficulties and the influence of friends.
Ofoyeju described the operation as part of the command’s efforts to tackle illicit drug cultivation and trafficking across Edo State.
He warned individuals using forests and farmlands for illegal drug activities that the agency would continue to intensify enforcement operations.
The commander also said the NDLEA would strengthen its cooperation with traditional rulers, community leaders, the military and other security agencies in areas affected by cannabis cultivation.
He urged residents to provide security agencies with useful information that could help identify and apprehend people allegedly involved in cannabis cultivation and trafficking.
