The Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Nura Abdullahi, has regained his freedom after spending 61 days in captivity.
Abdullahi was abducted on July 25, 2026, when armed men attacked his residence in Bungudu town. The attackers reportedly overpowered his security personnel and took him into nearby bushes.
During the attack, troops from Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued five members of his family, including his wife, mother and two children.
However, the chairman and two other victims, Halliru Soja, a Federal Medical Centre Gusau staff member, and Hussaini Naira, a POS operator, were taken away.

Four security personnel attached to the chairman were reportedly killed during the attack. His elder brother, Bello Abdullahi, who was shot during the incident, later died from his injuries on August 4.
A family source confirmed that the council chairman and other victims were released on Wednesday, September 23, after more than two months in captivity.
Details surrounding their release, including whether any conditions were attached, have not been made public.
The development brings an end to more than two months of uncertainty surrounding the whereabouts of the Bungudu council chairman.
