The National Basketball Association has been thrown into mourning following the death of Brandon Clarke at the age of 29.
His team, the Memphis Grizzlies, confirmed the tragic development in a statement released on Tuesday, describing Clarke as an outstanding player and a respected figure within the organisation.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke,” the club said. “Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organisation and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten.”
Clarke’s management agency, Priority Sports, also expressed shock over his death, describing the late forward as a caring and compassionate individual who always stood by his loved ones.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver paid tribute to Clarke, praising his passion and dedication to the game.
“As one of the longest-tenured members of the Grizzlies, Brandon was a beloved teammate and leader who played the game with enormous passion and grit,” Silver said while extending condolences to Clarke’s family, friends, and the Grizzlies organisation.
Clarke was selected 21st overall in the 2019 NBA Draft and quickly became one of Memphis’ important players. He earned NBA All-Rookie honours during his debut season and later signed a four-year contract extension with the Grizzlies in 2022.
However, injuries affected his career in recent seasons, limiting his appearances on the court due to recurring calf and knee problems.
Reports also indicated that Clarke had faced legal troubles weeks before his death after being arrested in Arkansas on allegations including possession of a controlled substance and fleeing from police while speeding.
Tributes have continued to pour in from fans, teammates, and members of the basketball community as the NBA mourns the loss of one of its stars.
