The Nasarawa State Police Command has recorded significant success in its ongoing fight against crime, rescuing seven kidnapped victims and arresting 35 suspects in a series of coordinated operations across the state.
Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, disclosed this during a briefing with the Coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police for the North-Central Zone, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, at the Command Headquarters in Lafia.
According to the police chief, the operations, carried out between January and June 2026, also led to the recovery of 13 firearms.
He noted that the achievements were made possible through intelligence-led policing, strengthened community engagement, and enhanced surveillance strategies.
Mohammed highlighted that Nasarawa State faces unique security challenges due to its proximity to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and its borders with Kaduna, Plateau, Niger, Benue, and Taraba states.

He added that the state’s vast forests and road networks have, in the past, provided cover for criminal activities.
He identified kidnapping, armed robbery, cattle rustling, communal clashes, and illegal possession of firearms as major security concerns.
However, he emphasized that incidents of kidnapping, particularly along major highways and rural communities, have reduced significantly due to sustained security operations.
The Commissioner further revealed that intensified security measures have been deployed in key flashpoints, including major road corridors and forest areas known for criminal activities.
Tactical teams, mobile police units, and highway patrol officers have also been stationed at strategic locations to ensure rapid response to threats.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment, Mohammed assured residents that efforts would be sustained to protect lives and property, while urging continued cooperation between the police and local communities.
The police command maintained that ongoing operations will remain proactive to prevent crime and enhance public safety across Nasarawa State.
