The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has begun efforts to identify and locate a man seen violently beating a toddler in a video circulating online.
The video, which was shared on X on Wednesday, shows the shirtless man repeatedly hitting the child on the head and body with what appears to be a charger cable.
The toddler was seen crying and trying to shield her head with her hands as the beating continued. At one point, the force of the assault caused the child to fall onto a tiled floor.
The man was also heard speaking aggressively to the child and using the Yoruba expression, “Ori ẹ o ma pe,” before bending down and forcing the crying toddler back up.
The footage triggered widespread condemnation online, with Nigerians calling for the man’s identity to be established and for him to face legal consequences.

Reacting to the video, NAPTIP said it had taken note of the incident and was working with relevant security agencies to identify and locate the suspect.
The agency said the alleged abuse of the child would not be tolerated and that the perpetrator would be prosecuted if identified.
NAPTIP urged members of the public with information that could assist the investigation to contact the agency through its direct message platform, email at info@naptip.gov.ng, or the shortcode 627.
The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and ensuring that individuals responsible for child abuse are brought to justice.
