The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old graduating student of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Emmanuel Ejim Ejim, following a viral video showing gunshots allegedly fired from a moving vehicle during a sign-out celebration.
According to the police, the incident occurred after the university’s sign-out event, with the suspects allegedly firing shots sporadically while travelling through parts of Calabar in a rented black jeep.
Following the circulation of the video, the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, ordered the immediate identification and arrest of those involved.
Police operatives from the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), working with the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, reportedly tracked the vehicle seen in the video. The driver was arrested, while information obtained during the investigation led officers to a hotel in Calabar, where Ejim was subsequently arrested.

The police said preliminary investigation identified Ejim as a suspected leader of the Vikings Confraternity. He allegedly admitted during questioning to being the person seen firing the shots in the viral video.
According to the police statement, Ejim also claimed that the pistol allegedly used during the incident was handed to him by another suspected member of the group.
The Cross River State Police Command said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other persons connected to the incident. Authorities are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and the movement of the vehicle.
The Commissioner of Police has directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and comprehensively.
