Two suspected motorcycle snatchers have fled after abandoning a bag containing a fabricated Beretta pistol and live ammunition during a police chase in Anambra State.
The incident occurred on Thursday, September 3, 2026, along Ukpor Road in the Umudim area of Nnewi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
The suspects were reportedly riding a motorcycle when operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Nnewi Central Police Station spotted them during a routine patrol.
According to the police, the officers immediately pursued the suspects after identifying them as suspected motorcycle snatchers.
During the chase, the suspects reportedly abandoned a bag that fell from them as they attempted to escape.
The police subsequently searched the abandoned bag and recovered a fabricated Beretta pistol and one live round of ammunition.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the recovery in a statement issued on Thursday.
He said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The police assured residents that the command remained committed to preventing crime and apprehending individuals involved in criminal activities across the state.
The latest recovery comes as security operatives continue efforts to tackle motorcycle theft and other forms of criminality in different parts of Anambra State.
