The incident reportedly occurred in the Okpanam area of Asaba, the state capital, where a downpour triggered severe flooding and left several roads submerged.
Eyewitnesses said residents and passersby made frantic efforts to rescue the victim after he became trapped in the fast-moving water. However, the strong current made it difficult for those at the scene to reach him.

In the footage, a distressed voice could be heard calling on nearby individuals to join the rescue effort. The speaker also warned a young boy against approaching the dangerous flood in order to prevent another possible casualty.
