A two-year-old child suspected to have been abducted has been rescued by police operatives in Warri, Delta State, and safely reunited with his family after a swift intervention at a busy market.
The rescue operation was carried out by the Quick Response Squad (QRS) of the Delta State Police Command on May 10, 2026, at about 7:15 p.m. around Igbudu Market in Warri.
According to police reports, the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Fejiro Obaduemu from Idesor Street in Isi Layout, Warri, was allegedly intercepted by residents after he was seen carrying the child concealed inside a sack bag.
The suspicious behaviour reportedly triggered alarm among traders and passersby, who moved to apprehend him.
Before the situation escalated into mob action, operatives of the Quick Response Squad arrived promptly, rescued both the child and the suspect, and moved them to a safe location.

The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, noting that the suspect sustained injuries during the attempted mob attack and was later taken to a police clinic in Warri for treatment before being placed in custody for investigation.
He further disclosed that follow-up investigations conducted the next day led to the successful tracing of the child’s parents, and the child was officially reunited with the family in the presence of leaders from the Hausa community in Warri.
Preliminary findings, according to the police, suggest that the suspect allegedly confessed to being instructed by an unidentified individual to steal the child.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down the suspected accomplice and dismantle any wider criminal network connected to the case.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, assured residents that the command remains committed to protecting children and combating child trafficking and related offences.
He also urged the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities involving children to the nearest police station or emergency contacts.
