The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, popularly known as the Taskforce, has arrested three men suspected of attempting to steal the brain-box of a government vehicle in Oshodi.
The suspects were reportedly caught at a Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) facility while allegedly trying to remove the brain-box from a Toyota Hilux used for official duties.
The Chairman of the Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan.
Akerele said the suspects were linked to a suspected syndicate involved in stealing vehicle components, including batteries, brain-boxes, spare tyres and jacks.
According to him, the Taskforce began monitoring the suspects following complaints from government agencies operating within the Safety Arena over the disappearance of vehicle parts.
He said preliminary investigations showed that the suspects allegedly targeted vehicles left unattended for long periods in garages and residential compounds.
One of the arrested suspects reportedly admitted that the group specialised in removing brain-boxes and other vehicle components for sale.
The suspect allegedly told investigators that the gang could steal two or three brain-boxes in a day when operations went as planned.
Akerele further stated that investigations linked some brain-boxes allegedly stolen in the area in September 2025 to a buyer identified as Tony, who reportedly purchased them for N70,000.

Tony, according to the Taskforce chairman, remains at large and is suspected of receiving stolen vehicle components.
The chairman said the arrested suspects would be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
He warned individuals involved in stealing or buying stolen vehicle parts to desist from the practice, stressing that the Taskforce would continue efforts to protect vehicle owners across Lagos.
Residents were also urged to report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities to enable prompt intervention.
