The Lagos State Government is considering a ban on the sale of sachet alcoholic drinks at motor parks across the state as part of efforts to curb reckless driving and reduce road accidents.
The Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, disclosed the plan during a meeting with local government secretaries and representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee on Tuesday.
According to her, the proposed restriction is aimed at improving public safety, particularly during the Ember months, when road traffic and travel activities typically increase.
Salu-Hundeyin expressed concern that some commercial drivers consume alcohol at motor parks before getting behind the wheel, potentially endangering passengers and other road users.

She explained that the proposal had been presented to the state governor during high-level security meetings, while the government is also intensifying campaigns to discourage drink-driving.
The move comes amid concerns over road crash fatalities in Lagos. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported that 91 people died in road accidents across the state between January and November 2025.
Although the proposed ban is still under consideration, it forms part of broader efforts to strengthen security and promote safer roads across Lagos State.
Motorists are urged to avoid alcohol consumption before driving and prioritise the safety of passengers and other road users.
