Operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested several suspected hoodlums accused of harassing and extorting motorists along the busy Lekki–Ajah Expressway.
The arrests were made during a targeted midnight enforcement operation aimed at curbing criminal activities along the corridor, which has long been plagued by reports of intimidation and illegal extortion.
According to authorities, the suspects—popularly referred to as “Omotaku”—were apprehended during routine patrols monitoring activities across major routes in the area.
The enforcement team focused specifically on individuals allegedly involved in harassing drivers, demanding money, and in some cases vandalising vehicles when victims refused to comply.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the development in a statement shared via his official social media platform.

While he did not disclose the exact number of suspects arrested, he emphasized that the operation was intelligence-driven and targeted only those engaging in criminal acts.
He stated that the government remains committed to ensuring public safety and maintaining free movement across the state, adding that enforcement actions against such elements will be sustained.
This latest crackdown follows a similar operation in March, during which about 25 individuals were arrested for related offences along the same expressway.
The Lekki–Ajah corridor has repeatedly recorded incidents involving touts and miscreants, prompting ongoing interventions by security agencies to restore order and protect road users.
Authorities have reiterated their resolve to continue surveillance and enforcement operations to eliminate threats to commuters and ensure safer roads across Lagos State.
