Fresh anxiety has enveloped Yashikira community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following reports that armed kidnappers holding some wives of the Emir of Yashikira and other residents captive have threatened to force the women into marriage if ransom demands are not met.
Sources involved in efforts to secure the victims’ release disclosed that the abductors are demanding about ₦150 million, reportedly calculated at approximately ₦15 million per victim.
According to the sources, the threat was communicated through individuals linked to ongoing negotiations and rescue efforts. The kidnappers are said to have become increasingly impatient over delays in meeting their ransom demands.
A security source familiar with the situation said the abductors warned that the Emir’s wives and other female captives could be handed over to their commanders if the ransom is not paid within the timeframe they have set.

The development has heightened concerns among residents, family members of the victims, and community leaders. Local vigilantes and security personnel involved in intelligence gathering have reportedly been briefed on the latest threat.
The victims were abducted during a coordinated attack on Yashikira community in late May. During the assault, gunmen reportedly attacked both the police divisional headquarters and the palace of the Emir.
Security personnel who survived the attack said the assailants were heavily armed and outgunned officers stationed at the police facility.
The attackers allegedly overpowered security operatives before moving to the Emir’s palace, where several people were taken hostage.
Witnesses said the gunmen spent a considerable amount of time at the palace, abducting victims, including members of the royal household.
Parts of the palace were also reportedly set ablaze, while vehicles and property were destroyed.
The Kwara State Police Command later confirmed the incident, stating that 10 persons were kidnapped during the attack and that sections of the palace were damaged by fire.
Authorities and local stakeholders continue efforts to secure the safe release of the abductees as concerns grow over the welfare of those still being held captive.
