The Bayelsa State Government has imposed an immediate 24-hour curfew in Biseni Clan, Yenagoa Local Government Area, following escalating unrest linked to protests over poor infrastructure and community development concerns.
The protest, led by women, was organised to demand the restoration of electricity, rehabilitation of roads, payment of outstanding three per cent Host Community Development Trust Fund benefits, and improved interventions from oil companies operating in the area.
The protesters reportedly barricaded roads, disrupting vehicular movement, business activities and access to the community.
A government delegation, including the Mayor of Yenagoa, Bulodisiye Ndiwari, and commissioners responsible for public utilities and mineral resources, was sent to appeal to the protesters to end the demonstration and allow contractors to resume remedial work. However, the women insisted that concrete action on their demands must precede the removal of the barricades.

Tensions reportedly escalated following the arrest of David Obuma, who is laying claim to the traditional throne and was alleged to be behind the protest. The arrest was followed by reported arson attacks targeting houses belonging to prominent community figures.
Governor Douye Diri ordered the curfew after receiving security briefings on the deteriorating situation. According to his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, security operatives have been directed to restore peace, maintain law and order, and ensure the security of residents.
The curfew takes effect immediately, as authorities move to contain the unrest and restore normalcy in the community.
