
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed an aerial surveillance aircraft to support ongoing rescue operations for 46 abducted teachers and pupils from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed this during a courtesy visit by representatives of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, and the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh.
According to the governor, the Air Force swiftly responded after reports of the abduction by deploying surveillance operations to provide critical intelligence support to security agencies working to secure the victims’ release.
He explained that intelligence gathered from the aerial missions has been instrumental in tracking developments on the ground and improving coordination among security operatives involved in the rescue effort.
Governor Makinde urged residents of the affected communities and the general public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, assuring that efforts are ongoing to ensure the safe return of all victims.

He also commended the Nigerian Air Force for its rapid intervention, noting that the deployed surveillance aircraft was made available while the state’s newly acquired aerial security assets are still being prepared for full deployment at the NAF Base in Lagos.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Suleh reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force to working closely with other security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted victims.
He further praised the Oyo State Government for its continued support for Air Force operations and infrastructure development within the state, stressing that stronger collaboration is essential in addressing security challenges nationwide.
It would be recalled that armed men attacked three schools in Oriire LGA on May 15, 2026, abducting 39 pupils and seven teachers, totaling 46 victims.
Security operations are ongoing as authorities intensify efforts to locate and rescue the abducted victims safely.
