A commercial driver was killed and nine people were abducted in two separate attacks in Kaduna State, raising fresh concerns about security along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari corridor.
The deceased, identified as Mallam Ibrahim Adamu, was reportedly a grandson of a district head in the Birnin Gwari Emirate. According to local sources, he was driving along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari highway when armed attackers ambushed his vehicle near Kwanan Giginya.
Witnesses said the gunmen opened fire on the vehicle, killing the driver during the attack. Several passengers were also taken away, with reports indicating that about five people were abducted before the assailants fled the scene.
In a separate incident, four farmers were reportedly kidnapped while working on their farms in the Kurgi area of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area. The victims were said to have been carrying out routine farming activities when armed men arrived and took them to an unknown location.

Residents said the incidents have heightened fears among communities along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari axis, an area that has experienced repeated security challenges in recent years. Community members noted that the continued attacks have affected transportation, farming activities, and economic life in the region.
Locals alleged that the attackers were among groups previously described by some community members as “repentant bandits,” a claim that has renewed debate over the effectiveness of peace and reconciliation efforts in the area.
Residents have appealed to security agencies to increase patrols along major routes and strengthen protection for vulnerable rural communities in an effort to prevent further attacks and improve safety across the area.
