The Kano State Police Command has arrested 244 suspects for various alleged criminal offences across the state during operations carried out in August.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Bompai, Kano.
Bakori said those arrested included eight suspected kidnappers, 28 suspected armed robbers, seven suspected vehicle thieves, 19 suspected drug dealers and 117 suspected thugs. He said another 65 suspects were arrested in connection with other major offences.
According to the police commissioner, the arrests were made through intelligence-led operations, raids on criminal hideouts, 24-hour patrols, stop-and-search exercises and collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders.
He said the operations led to the recovery of large quantities of suspected illicit drugs, including 17,684 sachets and 614 wraps of various substances.
The recovered items included sachets and cartons of Tramadol, Diazepam and Pregabalin, as well as Exol tablets and wraps of suspected Indian hemp.
Bakori also disclosed that three pistols and 65 rounds of live ammunition were recovered during operations targeting suspected gun-running activities.
Other recoveries included six vehicles, four tricycles and seven motorcycles allegedly linked to criminal activities.

The commissioner said sustained police operations had helped reduce major crimes and improve security in several parts of the Kano metropolis, including Dala, Kofar Nassarawa, Sheka, Dorayi, Rimin Kebbe and Hotoro.
He added that security operations were being intensified in Bachirawa, Gobirawa and Tudun Fulani to dismantle remaining criminal networks.
Bakori urged residents to continue providing credible information to the police and assured them of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He also said security measures had been put in place ahead of political campaigns and the 2027 general elections, warning politicians and their supporters against violence, thuggery and hate speech.
