The Kano State Government says it has arrested more than 380 suspects and secured over 230 convictions in the first two months of its intensified campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Governor Abba Yusuf disclosed this on Thursday during his address at the 66th Independence Anniversary celebration held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in Kano.
Yusuf said the state established the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in July 2026 as part of efforts to tackle illicit substances, thuggery and other criminal activities.
He said the task force had also dismantled several drug joints and criminal hideouts across the state.
The governor explained that the fight against drug abuse and crime required the combined efforts of security agencies, traditional institutions, religious leaders, communities, parents and residents.
He urged young people to stay away from drugs, violence and criminal activities, encouraging them instead to pursue education, agriculture, technology, entrepreneurship, vocational training and creative industries.

Yusuf also pledged that his administration would continue supporting security agencies, strengthening community-based intelligence and addressing social issues linked to crime and insecurity.
He called on residents to provide credible information to security agencies to help prevent and tackle criminal activities in the state.
Earlier, the task force chairman, Muhuyi Gado, had disclosed that more than 380 suspects had been arrested and over 230 convictions secured since the committee was inaugurated on July 22.
The task force has also combined enforcement operations with rehabilitation and public awareness campaigns, with about 125 people reportedly referred to the Kano Reformatory Institute in Kiru for rehabilitation.
